Happy birthday to a good friend, Myron Rinker, who will be celebrating his 80th birthday on Oct. 6.
Lions Club will meet for its regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 pm. A potluck meal will be served with the meeting and program to follow.
The Greene County Historical Society will meet at the church for its regular meeting, Friday, Oct. 6. The noon lunch is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. The free program, starting at 1 pm, will be “The Banks of Rippey” presented by Nancy Bardole Hanaman and Cindy Anderson Cole, daughters of Clark Bardole and Walter Anderson, long time bankers in Rippey.

Fall hours are in place. The library will be open Monday thru Friday, 1-5 pm.
Trip to Wisconsin – Dale and Nancy Hanaman visited with Sarah and Benji Pearson, Steven, Elizabeth and Andrea in Superior, WI recently. Dale and Nancy were glad to deliver tomatoes and cucumbers to the family. While there, they attended their grandson Steven’s soccer game with the Superior High School team and saw him score the winning goal in the last nine seconds.
East Greene class of 1964 meets – Members of the East Greene Class of 1964 gathered at 209 Main Restaurant in Paton to spend time with Dale and Barb Robson of Golden, CO. Also present were Barb’s brother Jim Carey from California and her sister Kathy Carey from New York.
Class members present included John Cronin of Williamsburg, John Raines and Julie Stinard of Des Moines, Fred and Jacque Grow of Boone, Ron Bouchard of Altoona, Janice Shadle of Zearing, Joanne Jones of Perry, Sue Thornton and Lynda Cochran of Jefferson, Sue Juhl and Jan Scharingson of Grand Junction, David Dobson of Indianola, and Nancy Hanaman of Rippey. The group enjoyed sharing memories and catching up on current activities.
Dale Robson took time out of his busy weekend to visit Virgene Morse. The Robson and Morse families were neighbors for many years, until Leonard and Leone moved to Colorado to be near their son and family. She enjoyed the visit and with Jean Borgeson’s help, Dale was able to send a picture to Virgene via email, of a “big old fish” he caught while in Alaska. Jean has fond memories of Leonard and Leone, too, but Dale was a senior by the time she married into the neighborhood and was trying to sort everyone out. That took a few years! Anyway, it is always nice when a child of old friends will seek out and visit with their parents’ friends. It made a special memory for Virgene, that’s for sure.
Doris Brown and Jean Borgeson visited with Eleanor Whiton in the Rowley Masonic Home on Friday afternoon. The highlight of the day was when her grand-niece and husband, Nick and Carol Hopp of Decorah, introduced Eleanor to their month-old son Chase. Grandmother Rosanna (Whiton) Weis had accompanied them. Her sister Lori (Whiton) Damron was there to enjoy the afternoon with Eleanor, also. Doris had a nice time visiting with Rosanna and Lori, as they were children when they lived in the same neighborhood as Doris, south of Rippey. The family was visiting their father Gale Whiton of Perry who, from all reports, also enjoyed meeting the newest “twig” on his tree.
