Ram junior Rachael Danielson earned a return trip to the state golf tournament by shooting the low score at the Class 4A regional meet held at Majestic Hills Golf Course in Denison Monday.
Danielson led all scorers with an 85. She will be the only Ram golfer at the state tournament next Tuesday and Thursday at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown, as the team ranked ninth of 12 teams.
“It is something she works very hard at and it’s nice to see her rewarded for her effort,” said girls golf coach Heath Telleen about Danielson. Telleen said Danielson’s back nine was “fantastic.” “This is a great accomplishment for her to be going back to the state tournament,” he added.
For the Rams, Kaitlyn McColley had 112, Lindsey Paulsen had 132, and Emily Heupel had 138.
It was the last Ram golf outing for Paulsen and Heupel, both seniors. “Both of them had some very nice rounds this year. I appreciate their contributions,” the coach said.
Humboldt won the team portion with a 372, and Humboldt’s Avery Terwilliger was second individually with an 86. Of the 12 top scorers, five were from Humboldt, three were from Carroll, and Harlan, Lewis Central and Spencer had one each.
Carroll scored 389. Other team scores were Harlan 408, Denison-Schleswig 423, Glenwood 425, Spencer 426, LeMars 434, Bishop Heelan 451, Greene County 467, and Storm Lake 481. There was no team score for Lewis Central and Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
