Parents who are looking for something to keep their kids busy this summer may find the answer with STEAM Clubs.
Registration is open for students in grades 5-8 (in August) for Full STEAM Ahead through ISU Extension & Outreach Greene County. There are four STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Clubs to choose from and the program is offered free through a grant from the Iowa Department of Human Services.
Children can take the first step in becoming a master chef with Kids in the Kitchen (June 26-30, 9:30 am-noon). Participants will prepare delicious dishes while keeping nutrition and safety in mind.
Youngsters will learn crime-solving techniques in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (June 19-22, 10 am-noon). Officers will provide first-hand knowledge of how to catch the perps and what it is like to be a police officer.
Kids can explore the world of vision communication in Photography (June 26-28, 9-11:30 am), learning techniques to help them take beautiful photos.
Finally, youngsters can be engaged in design and programming electronics devices with Robotics I (Mondays, June 12, 19 and 26, 9 am-noon).
Each club will meet at Greene County High School. Youngsters are welcome to choose more than one club, provided they are not scheduled at the same time. Each club will be limited to 10 participants.
