Students attending summer school in Greene County Schools had opportunities they don’t have during the school year.
Fourth graders had reading “dates” with kindergartners. According to district reading specialist Julie Neal, the activity helped the older students work on fluency, giving them a reason to reread with expression and meaning for their kindergarten audience. “Being a fluent reader helps students with their comprehension of what they are reading,” Neal said.
Students in grades K-8 learned about Greene County history at the Historical Museum. Roger Aegerter and Jan Durlam, both former teachers, were their hosts at the museum. Students returned to school to write about what they had learned and what they most enjoyed at the museum.
