Science Center of Iowa bringing ‘Fantastic Forces’ to a library near you

The Science Center of Iowa (SCI) is bringing its summer library program, “Fantastic Forces,” to Greene County. The “Fantastic Forces” program is part of SCI’s outreach program, which brings fun, engaging experiments to schools and libraries across Iowa.This program is funded by the Greene County board of supervisors. Dates for the programs are as follows:

Monday, July 18

  • 10 am – William Paton Public Library in Paton
  • 1 pm – Grand Junction public library
  • 4 pm – Rippey public library

Tuesday, July 19

  • 10 am – First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, hosted by the Jefferson public library
  • 1 pm – Churdan public library
  • 4 pm – H.F. & Maude E. Marchant Memorial Library in Scranton

With the help of SCI’s trained presenters, audiences will discover the physics of flight and explore the four forces that allow us to fly through the air at staggering speeds: weight, thrust, drag and lift. Through hands-on demonstrations and audience participation, “Fantastic Forces” will introduce children to the concepts of air pressure and resistance, surface area, movement and gravity.

This program highlights the importance of science learning and experimentation beyond the classroom.It also reflects SCI’s mission to engage and inspire Iowans along their journey of lifelong science learning.
