Habitat for Humanity seeks 2017 home repair projects

Heart of Iowa Habitat for HumanitySince its introduction in 2012, the Helping Hands home repair program has allowed Habitat for Humanity volunteers to assist 19 Greene County homeowners with critical home repairs. This support allowed many to remain in their homes with dignity and a renewed sense of hope and pride.

With projects under way or soon to begin in Scranton, Jefferson, Rippey and rural northwest Greene County, Habitat leaders are actively searching for homeowners to assist in 2017.

Those who own and reside in a home in need of external repairs, such as new paint, roof replacement, new siding, entry doors, landscaping renewal or accessibility improvements are encouraged to contact Habitat for Humanity for more information.

Information on the Helping Hands program can be found by contacting Jeff Lamoureux, associate director (phone 515-386-3093, email AD@heartofiowahabitat.org), or by stopping at the Habitat for Humanity office (114 S. Chestnut Street, Jefferson).

The Helping Hands program does not assist landlords to repair rental properties and does not offer interior home repairs, though limited assistance can be provided in conjunction with external home repairs.

As with the Habitat for Humanity home construction program, homeowners in the Helping Hands program do repay the cost of materials used on their projects through a zero-interest loan with affordable payments as low as $50 per month. There is never a charge for volunteered labor. This is made possible through the support of many dedicated volunteers and donors.

If you or someone you know needs to escape the unhealthy grip of unstable and substandard housing, please contact Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity today.
