Greene County’s first Full STEAM Ahead, a summer program through ISU Extension and Outreach, wrapped up Wednesday, July 6.
Three STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) clubs met Wednesday afternoons at Greene County Elementary or at the Greene County High School. The collaboration of Extension and the Greene County Schools provided an enrichment opportunity for 25 youngsters.
Pictured are members of the Robotics Club, led by Kayla Hyett, Noelle Gray and Earl McAlexander. They spent their last session experiencing a virtual reality tour of an Italian villa and a rollercoaster ride, manipulating 3D graphics in a FLEX (Forward Learning Experience), and watching a 3D printer at work.
Students learned about law enforcement and investigation in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, led by Greene County sheriff Steve Haupert. They had a chance to be chefs in the Kids in the Kitchen club, led by teacher Donna Carhill in the Ram Restaurant kitchen at the high school.
STEAM clubs were made possible through a grant received from Greene County Community Foundation and funds received through Communities 4 Children and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children neighborhood/community mini-grants.
