Orders for Rippey school memorial bricks due this week: Individuals interested in placing orders for the Rippey school memorial should complete the application this week, as the Friends of Rippey are planning to submit the order July 5.
Mark Devilbiss has graciously and generously assumed the role formerly held by his dad Keith. He is also a mason and will place the new bricks ordered into the patio area.
Individuals do not have to be graduates of the Rippey school to order a brick, as a number of former students who were educated in the building when it served as the East Greene K-8th grade center now have their bricks in place.
Several persons also have chosen to purchase bricks for their parents, former teachers, or other relatives or friends they want to recognize and honor. The bricks are $50 each, and orders must be submitted on the “form,” as there is a limit on the lines available for imprinting on each brick. The forms are available on the REMEMBERING THE RIPPEY SCHOOL Facebook site, at the Rippey library, the church, either Rippey bank and can be downloaded on the http://rippeynews.org web site.
Please return the form and your check payable to: Friends of Rippey, Box 52, Rippey IA 50235.
Community happenings
Yoga classes offered: Yoga classes are being held every Wednesday morning at the Rippey Community Center beginning at 7:15 and running thru 8:15. Judy Tomenga, a rural Rippey resident and certified yoga instructor, leads the class. Persons with various levels of skills are participating in the class, but individuals are encouraged to “make their workouts their own” according to Judy.
Yoga mats are available, and no special clothing is required, other than comfortable non- restrictive clothing.
There is no charge for the first class. Subsequent class fees are determined by the individual, and is a private donation to the instructor, with the range being from $1-4.

This week at the library was so much fun! Tuesday’s paper airplane competition brought out a lot of kids who made their own gliders, Canards and Hawkeyes and then flew them for the title of “Best Pilot”. Next week, we will have July 4th crafts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday is ‘Smell-O-Rama’ – come in and see if you can figure out ‘What’s that smell?’ Thursday we will show “Kung Fu Panda 3.” At 2:30 and 4:30 pm. Bring the family and watch as Po, Li, Shifu and the rest of the gang try to stop the peacock villain from conquering China.
Anyone interested in participating in the book club, please contact me at the library (by email, phone or Facebook page). We have multiple copies of two different books, “One for the Money” by Janet Evanovich and “Mudbound” by Hillary Jordan. We will start book club this fall and would like to know how many readers we can expect and which book we would like to read and discuss (while we eat treats, of course). ~submitted by librarian Katrina Buttler

News in and around Rippey
Dale and Nancy Hanaman travelled to Rice Lake, Wi, to be with their granddaughter Adrianna Hanaman for her high school graduation on June 8. Her graduation will be later in the summer. She will work this summer at Perkins and plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the fall.
Jean Borgeson visited with her sister and husband, Dean and Elayne Bice of Johnston, Friday afternoon, June 24. The Bices were anticipating celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 25. A highlight was the blessing of Elayne’s new wedding rings which were a replacement of the originals that were stolen last year when we were all gathered in CO for family time. Elayne and Jean attended the open house held that afternoon for the Rev. Bob Cook, who retired after 40 years of ministry in the United Methodist Church. He served in Grand Junction from 1978-1984. His friend and helpmate Pam Sanders, a friend of both Elayne and Jean, was very surprised when we walked in. It was a lovely reception for Bob.
