Mega tax sale avoided
The spectre of a huge tax sale next Monday faded into the mist Tuesday with the payment of $99,441 taxes on 162 parcels of land owned by Hunter Farms and Hunter of Iowa.
According to deputy county treasurer Denise Stofer, there are 143 parcels still on the delinquent tax list, and she anticipates property owners will pay their taxes on at least 20 more parcels this week.
The delinquent tax sale will be about the same size as in previous years, Stofer said.
The tax sale will begin next Monday, June 20, at 9 am in the board room on the second floor of the courthouse in Jefferson.
