Rippey Lions Club: The Rippey Lions Club enjoyed a potluck meal at its May 5 meeting. The Lions received a thank you from Janice Johnston for the donation to help support her piano lessons for Rippey young people. Work at Osborn Park will include cement around the memorial rock and painting the merry-go-round.

Following the meal, Dick Bardole introduced Don Van Gilder, “unofficial” historian for the Greene County courthouse, who presented an interesting and informative program regarding the history of the courthouse, past and upcoming celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its completion in October 2017.

He shared photos of the construction of the current courthouse and pictures of the previous building. There is an event Sunday, May 15, to commemorate the laying of the cornerstone and will feature singing by the Greene County Singers and a Masonic ceremony.

For more information, he suggested checking out the “Courthouse 100 Greene County Iowa” page on Facebook.

The next meeting of the Rippey Lions Club will be on May 19 at the Rippey United Methodist Church at 7 pm.

Confirmed were Dylan Ades, son of John and Connie Ades, and Avery Bardole, son of Peter and Yvette Bardole. They have been attending class once a week for six months with Pastor Paul Burrow. They have learned about the Methodist church and how to be a good church member. During the morning services they shared their faith statements. Dylan Ades was also baptized during the service.

It is always a joy to welcome young men progressing in their faith walk, to the Rippey Methodist Church family!
