Area dog owners can have their pets spayed or neutered at a low cost clinic Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Grand Junction Community Center.
The clinic is sponsored by Animal Protection and Education (A.P.E.), the Animal Protection Society of Iowa (APSI), the Jewell Animal Hospital and Ark Sciences Charity in observance of Spay Day USA. There are no income guidelines and local residency is not required to participate in the low cost clinic. “A.P.E. encourages Iowans to help prevent unwanted litters of puppies by having your dogs spayed or neutered” an A.P.E. spokesperson said.
Pets can be registered for the clinic online at http://www.ape.checkappointments.com. For more information call 515-460-7729 or email united4ape@hotmail.com.
The package includes spay surgery for female dogs or Zeuterin neutering for male dogs; distemper and rabies vaccinations; and microchip ID. (Puppies must be over 12 weeks old to receive the rabies vaccine. Male pups as young as 12 weeks and as small as 3 pounds can be safely Zeuter-neutered. Female pups should be at least 12 weeks old and weigh at least 3 pounds.) Cost is just $65 per animal thanks to the sponsors and a Des Moines donor. Additional financial assistance may be available on a case by case basis.
