Both P-C teams add to their win columns

The Paton-Churdan Rocket basketball teams followed a pair of wins on the road Friday night in Anita with two more wins at home over Charter Oak-Ute Saturday afternoon. The girls won their game 68-59 and the boys won 55-40.

Rocket senior Carleigh Paup, who became a member of the Rockets’ 1,000 Point Club last January, scored 41 points in the win. Sydney Koch scored nine points, Kasey Lane scored eight, Grace Geisler scored six and Jenna Beyers scored four.

Coach Chris Petersen reports Lane led in rebounds with seven, while Paup and Geisler had five each, Beyers had four, Koch and Reilly Niles had two each and Megan Carey had one. Koch also had eight steals and five assists. Paup had five steals and two assists, Lane had two steals, and Carey had an assist.

“We played fairly well after a quick turnaround from a tight game last night,” Petersen said. ‘I was pleased with our aggressiveness defensively, but we will need to do a better job of playing physically and getting on the boards…. We will need to tighten some things up both offensively and defensively before we play Glidden-Ralston on Tuesday.”

The girls are now 3-2 overall and in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference.

The boys continued to win, this time with Noah Juergensen leading in points with 25, including making seven of eight free throws. Joe Towers had 16 points with one 3-pointer and Jake Berns had 10 points with one 3-pointer. Charlie Minnehan had four points to round out the Rockets’ scoring.

The Rockets dominated throughout, leading 12-8 after one quarter, 26-14 at halftime, and 36-26 after three quarters.

“We played a pretty good game tonight. We still have some things that we need to work on,” coach Chris Stimson said.

Among them – “The team needs to make sure that we take care of the ball offensively,” he said. The Rockets had 15 turnovers against Charter Oak-Ute and 13 turnovers against CAM the evening before.

The boys team is at 5-0 in the Rolling Valley conference and overall.
