Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Friday, Feb. 28: Routine activity reported.
Thursday, Feb. 27: At 3:27 pm a complainant reported a possible trespass at a residence in the 300 block of N. Maple St. At 4:34 pm a complainant reported a driving complaint that occurred outside the city limits. The officer spoke to the driver. The incident was referred to the sheriff’s office. At 6:21 pm a complainant reported the theft of an electronic device that had been mailed to a residence in the 900 block of N. Pinet St.
Wednesday, Feb. 26: At 10:32 pm a complainant requested an officer at the Redwood Motel to report harassment. Pursuant to an investigation initiated the first of January of checks being passed at local businesses on a closed account on a bank that no longer exists, warrants have been issued charging Stacy Renee Schwering, 40, of Pleasant Hill with theft-fourth degree (serious misdemeanor), seven counts of forgery (class D felony) and ongoing criminal conduct (class B felony).*
Tuesday, Feb. 25: During the early morning hours, seven citations were issued for parking in violation of the snow ordinance. At 7:54 am an officer investigated a two vehicle backing collision in the 700 block of W. Monroe St. Kevin Devilbiss and Carrie Jensen backed from their residential driveways at the same time and their vehicles collided in the middle of the street. No citations were issued as the officer determined the drivers were equally at fault. Damage to Devilbiss’s 2001 Dodge pickup truck was estimated at $200. Damage to Jensen’s 2007 Mercury Montego was estimated at $3,000. At 10:42 am a complainant reported the theft of a skid loader bucket valued at $3,000 from the 500 block of W. Wall St.
At 3:19 pm a complainant reported harassing phone calls to an officer. At 5:30 pm an officer was advised of a trespass at Don’s Ace Hardware by a male who had been served notice previously not to enter the property. The officer arrested Tyler James Alberts, 25, of Jefferson in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way for trespass.* Upon further investigation, Alberts was charged with two counts of theft-fifth degree and is accused of taking items from Don’s Ace Hardware and Ben Franklin without paying for them.*
Monday, Feb. 24: At 12 pm a complainant reported an incident at 300 S. Wilson where a male made unwanted advances towards her. The incident remains under investigation. At 7:54 pm a complainant reported harassment by a male residing in California. The incident remains under investigation. Pursuant to an investigation initiated 2/10, a warrant has been issued charging Justin Lopez, 16, of Jefferson with violation of a no contact order.* He has been referred to the juvenile court system.
Sunday, Feb. 23: At 2:39 pm a resident reported a minor female may had violated a no contact order. The incident remains under investigation. At 6:35 pm an officer met a female at the pound who had found two dogs running at large in Willow Township. At 10:20 pm a complainant reported an erratic driver southbound on S. Elm from W. Russell St. The officer located Payne Blair and cited him for careless driving.
Saturday, Feb. 22: At 3 pm harassment that occurred in the 100 block of E. Washington St was reported to an officer. At 9:29 pm personnel at Dollar General reported a suspicious male had been in the store and may have attempted to solicit something illegal. The officer contacted the male and is attempting to speak to him about the incident.
Friday, Feb. 21: At 5:07 am the LEC was notified a DOT snowplow had struck a utility pole owned by the city of Jefferson at the north end of the Highway 4 overpass. At 8:44 am a complainant reported harassment by a known male. At 8:49 am a complainant reported a theft from a residence in the 600 block of N. Olive St. At 11:32 am officers assisted the sheriff’s office in taking a male into custody for whom there was a court ordered mental health commitment. Thursday, Feb. 20: At 9:54 am a resident reported an attempted identity theft. She reported receiving a phone call from someone who said he was an official with the FBI. The caller said he had received information from her local police department that there had been recent burglaries in her neighborhood. The caller told the complainant she could have a sign placed free in her yard. The complainant believed the call to be fraudulent and hung up. At 11:06 am an officer investigated a backing collision in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way. Susan Durlam was eastbound on Lincoln Way. John Anderson backed from a parking stall and the vehicles collided. Anderson was cited for unsafe backing on a highway. Damage to Durlam’s 2005 Saturn was estimated at $200. No damage was reported to Anderson’s 2005 Dodge pickup truck. At 11:12 am an officer investigated a singe vehicle collision at the corner of W. Washington and N. Vine St. Kirk Hammer was westbound on Washington. He failed to negotiate a right turn onto Vine St and his 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe struck a city-owned stop sign. Minimal damage was reported At 11:48 am an officer investigated a single vehicle collision at W. Lincoln Way and Briarwood Bend. Alan Anderson was westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. His 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck struck a utility pole. Damage to the truck was estimated to exceed value. At 12:10 pm a second caller reported the same FBI scam reported earlier in the day. At 1:50 pm a complainant reported ongoing harassment by a subject honking his horn when driving past her residence in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. Eric Chrystal was cited for defective audible warning device. Iowa Code section 321.432 states, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall when reasonably necessary to insure safe operation give audible warning with the horn but shall not otherwise use such horn when upon the highway.” At 3:25 pm an employee at Dollar General requested an officer for a shoplifting complaint. Two females, one 8 and the other 14, were taken into custody and released to a parent. Charges are pending. At 5:52 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief at a mobile home park in the 100 block of E. Central Ave. A male in a silver Chevrolet pickup truck had tampered with siding on the residence. No damage was reported.
Wednesday, Feb. 19: At 6:46 am a complainant reported a piece of concrete in the roadway in the 100 block of N. Elm St. An officer removed the debris. At 9:37 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a house in the 400 block of W. State St. It appeared a child had smeared mud on the complainant’s windows. At 12:40 pm trespass was reported at a city-owned property at 406 E. Lincoln Way. A male had entered the building and was using electricity. The male was gone upon the officer’s arrival. At 2:27 pm an employee at Dollar General asked an officer to pick up a discarded plastic bag containing a white powdery residue that had been found on the shelving. At 2:52 pm an employee at Oly’s Corner reported the theft of gas by a male driving a dark colored Mitsubishi Eclipse. The incident remains under investigation. At 3:26 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highways 4 and 30. Teresa VanLoon was eastbound on Highway 30 following Anita Bauer. Bauer stopped and prepared to turn south. VanLoon struck Bauer’s vehicle in the rear. VanLoon was cited for failure to stop in a safe assured clear distance ahead. Damage to her 2007 Ford Edge was estimated at $500. Damage to Bauer’s 2004 Lincoln Town Car was also estimated at $500. At 8 pm an officer spoke to the guardians of two sets of school age children regarding harassment that occurred after school in the 400 block of N. Maple St. At 8 pm an officer was requested at the Greene County Medical Center emergency room for a concern a patient would become violent. At 9:56 pm a complainant reported the theft of a rifle from a residence in the 200 block of N. Locust St.
Tuesday, Feb. 18: At 9:01 am an officer investigated a backing collision in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way. Mary Ann Dayton attempted to back out of a parking stall on the south side of the street but struck the passenger side of an eastbound vehicle driven by Toresa Beyers. Charges are pending. Damage to Dayton’s 2007 Buick Lucerne was estimated at $1,000. Damage to Beyer’s 2003 Chevrolet Impala was also estimated at $1,000. At 2:18 pm an officer was advised of hay in the roadway on top of the Highway 4 overpass. At 3:25 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 400 block of N. Chestnut St for a report of harassment. At 4:33 pm a resident reported a phone scam in the 100 block of Harding Road. At 7:39 pm a complainant reported a theft in the 300 block of E. State St. At 9:03 pm a resident reported an attempted phone scam in which a caller was looking for personal information.
Monday, Feb. 17: At 8:35 am an officer investigated a single vehicle collision in the 1500 block of County Road E-53 east of Jefferson. Brittani Alberts was westbound when she lost control of her 2000 Chevrolet Impala. She struck a mailbox and then entered the ditch. She was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
Sunday, Feb. 16: At 2:30 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive to report suspicious activity on the internet involving a family member. At 10:02 pm a complainant reported the theft of a ring from a locker at the Greene County Community Center.

Friday, Feb. 14: At 11:33 am an officer was requested at district court to take a male into custody to be transported to prison. At 11:44 am a complainant reported a payday loan scam involving a family member in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Ave. At 9:05 pm a complainant reported a trespass at a residence in the 400 block of N. West St. At 10:35 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision at Ram Drive and S. Chestnut St. Dylan Casali was eastbound on Ram Drive when he failed to negotiate the turn and drove through a fence owned by Greene County schools. Casali was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the GMC truck he was driving, which is owned by Rick Smith, was estimated at $500.

Wednesday, Feb. 12: At 7:42 am an officer arrested Michael Laub, 47, for driving while barred.* At 12:33 pm an officer arrested Paul Oyres, 32, of Jefferson on a warrant for probation revocation.* Pursuant to an investigation initiated on Feb. 8 of an accident in the Kum & Go parking lot, Michael Laub, 47, has been charged with driving while barred and identity theft, both aggravated misdemeanors, and cited for failure to prove security against liability- accident related.* Laub allegedly backed into a vehicle that was parked near the gas pumps and provided the owner of that vehicle with a false name and insurance information prior to leaving the scene.
Tuesday, Feb 11: At 9 am a father reported the violation of a juvenile no contact order. The incident remains under investigation. At 10:10 am a complainant reported the theft of parts from a vehicle stored on a property in the 900 block of N. Cedar St. At 4:06 pm a mother reported a 6-year-old boy missing from the 1500 block of Hawthorne Lane. The boy had gotten on the wrong bus after school and hadn’t returned home on time. The boy was located a short time later near his home by his mother. The JPD was assisted by the Jefferson fire department and Greene County sheriff’s office. At 4:22 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the 700 block of W. Monroe St. Harry Jensen was backing from a residential driveway. Amanda Brown was westbound on Monroe. As Jensen backed up, the right front of Brown’s vehicle struck the right rear of Jensen’s vehicle, causing it to rotate in the roadway and strike the right rear of Brown’s vehicle. Jensen was cited for unsafe backing on a highway. Damage to his 2004 Dodge Neon was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Brown’s 1989 Buick LeSabre was estimated at $3,000. At 6:31 a theft at Don’s Ace Hardware was reported. The incident remains under investigation.
Monday, Feb. 10: At 10:21 am an officer assisted at the courthouse taking a person into custody at district court.
Sunday, Feb. 9: At 1:58 pm a resident requested an officer pick up from a residence in the 600 block of S. Wilson an abandoned lock box believed to contain medication. At a result of a fight at Greene County High School Feb. 4, an officer made referrals to Juvenile Court Services as follows: Chelsi Wilkens, 17, charged with disorderly conduct; and Jennifer Brown, 15, charged with assault- serious and disorderly conduct.*
Saturday, Feb. 8: At 10:14 am an officer investigated a collision in the 900 block of N. Wilson. Christina Chapman was northbound on Wilson. Dennis Louk was driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck plowing snow in a residential driveway. Chapman told the officer she saw Louk backing from the driveway so she honked the car horn and sped up. The rear bumper of Louk’s truck struck the right rear fender of Chapman’s vehicle. Louk denied striking the vehicle and said he would have felt the contact if the two vehicle had collided. Damage to Chapman’s 2004 Chrysler Sebring and to Louk’s truck was estimated at $200. The officer cited Louk for unsafe backing upon a highway and failure to prove security against liability- accident related. Louk asked the officer what would happen if he refused to sign the citations. The officer advised he would arrest Louk. Louk told the officer to do that. Louk was arrested and transported to the LEC where he was booked on the citations. At 11:13 am Amanda Rohan reported the porch of the house at 404 N. Vine St was on fire. The officer located a fire within the wall and attempted to extinguish it with a fire extinguisher. The fire department arrived on the scene and the fire was contained within the wall. It was found that a maintenance person had tried to thaw out some frozen pipes and had caused a stud in the wall to smolder and eventually ignite. At 11:534 am Kevin Paulsen reported another driver had backed into the front right corner of his vehicle as he pumped gas at Kum & Go, causing an estimated $500 in damage. The other driver exchanged insurance information and left the scene. The identity of the other driver is under investigation.
Friday, Feb. 7: At 3:53 pm Guthrie County law enforcement reported a road rage incident that occurred on Highway 144 in Guthrie County where vehicles turned north on Highway 4. An officer spoke to the driver of one of the vehicles involved just south of Jefferson near the river bridge. The other driver was reported to have been from Carroll. Information was collected and passed on to Guthrie County for investigation. At 7:30 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 1200 block of S. Elm St for a scam through the internet.
Thursday, Feb. 6: At 7:52 am an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at S. Oak and W. Madison St. Robert Schroeder was eastbound on Madison. Damion Louk was northbound on Oak St. Their vehicles collided in the intersection. Schroeder was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right. Damage to his 2002 Jeep Liberty was estimated at $3,000. Louk was cited for failure to prove security against liability- accident related. Damage to his 1995 GMC pickup truck was estimated at $250. At 3:29 pm an officer investigated a one vehicle collision in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St. Nolan Wilson was northbound when he struck the curb, causing the vehicle to slide out of control on the ice packed street and then strike a utility pole. Wilson told the officer he had looked down and was distracted briefly. Wilson was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to his 2002 Ford Explorer was estimated at $8,000. At 3:33 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision in the 100 block of Ram Drive. Cassidy Adamson was eastbound when she lost control of a her vehicle on a slick spot. Her 2005 Dodge pickup truck slid into the left rear tire of a Paton-Churdan school bus which had 15 passengers. There were no injuries. Adamson was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to the 2012 International school bus was estimated ate $800. Pursuant to a complaint Feb. 5 by a resident in the 300 block of E. Vest St of unwanted text messages, Matthew William Kruse, 30, of Fort Dodge has been charged with harassment-third degree.*
Wednesday, Feb. 5: At 11:49 am the Urbandale police department requested assistance in locating a Jefferson resident who had been involved in a hit and run accident in a parking lot in that city. At 2:21 pm a resident in the 600 block of N. Chestnut reported a neighbor had intentionally placed snow on his property. The officer is investigating. At 3:24 pm a complainant reported harassment through text messages from a male who had been previously warned by an officer about that activity. Charges are pending. During the early morning hours of Feb. 6 three citations were issued for violations of the snow ordinance in the downtown area.
Tuesday, Feb. 4: At 6:55 am an officer investigated a hit and run collision at Sparky’s One Stop. The driver of a pickup truck backed into the trailer of a Pepsi truck owned by New Bern Transport Corporation. The pickup driver left the scene. Damage to the 2000 International 4000 tractor trailer was estimated at $1,000. The incident remains under investigation. At 10:45 am an officer investigated a traffic accident in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way. Lois Davis was westbound behind a Jefferson garbage truck driven by Craig Kinsey. The garbage truck was stopped at the stop sign at Wilson St. Davis struck the rear of the truck, causing an estimated $500 damage to her 1998 Plymouth Breeze. Davis told the officer she was distracted. There was no damage to the garbage truck. Davis was cited for failure to stop in a safe assured clear distance ahead. At 2:15 pm a complainant reported an assault at a residence in the 800 block of W. Lincoln Way. A 16-year-old female was taken into custody and charged with assault-simple. A court order was obtained to place her in a juvenile facility. At 4:30 pm a complainant reported her daughter had been assaulted by a female at Greene County High School earlier in the day. Charges are pending.
Monday, Feb. 3: At 10:15 an officer charged Danielle Schofield, 27, of Jefferson with violation of a protective order – aiding and abetting.* He charged Paul Oyres, 32, of Jefferson with violation of a protective order.* The pair went together to the LEC to turn themselves in on warrants for identical charges that were issued after they were found to be together (in violation of a protective order that was in place) on Jan. 31. At 3:10 pm an officer arrested Hayley Brown, 21, of Jefferson on an outstanding warrant for unlawful use of a credit card, theft-fourth degree.* At 8:30 pm a resident reported a missing person. The resident reported a 39-year-old female had not been heard from in over a week. An investigation was initiated. Pursuant to a complaint initiated on 1/31, a warrant has been issued charging Tammy Ann Tolsdorf, 37, of Grand Junction with tampering with witness- aggravated misdemeanor.*
Sunday, Feb. 2: At 7:48 pm an officer investigated a one vehicle collision at the corner of W. Washington and N. Olive St. Timothy Blake was northbound on Olive. He attempted to turn right onto Washington but his vehicle slid on the snow-covered street and struck a utility pole. Blake was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to Blake’s 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix was estimated at $800. Damage to the utility pole was estimated at $300.
Saturday, Feb. 1: At 10:34 am an officer investigated a traffic collision at the intersection of S. Elm and W. Harrison St. Daniel Hedberg was southbound on Elm. Susan Klietsch was westbound on Harrison. Klietsch stopped as posted and entered the intersection, where the two vehicles collided. Klietsch was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to her 2006 Plymouth Town and Country minivan was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Hedberg’s 2007 Merury Mountaineer was estimated at $500. At 3:22 pm a resident reported receiving a phone call in which the caller told her she had won $1 million. All the resident needed to do was purchase a green dot phone card and send the caller some money. The resident realized the phone call was a scam and notified the JPD.
“All charges are merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”
