Rams top 80 points in win over CMB

Twenty-two 3-point shots  in the game

The Greene County boys were hot from outside the arc  as the Rams topped the Raiders of Collins Maxwell Baxter 83-65 in the middle school gym in Jefferson Friday night. The Rams made 15 of 25 3-point shots, for 60 percent accuracy. The Raiders also made seven long shots, shooting at 39 percent accuracy from beyond the arc.

Junior Trey Tucker scored 28 points, including six 3-pointers. Senior Tyler Beger scored well above last year’s season average, totaling 20 points,

including four 3-point shots. Freshman Trey Hinote scored 14 points with four 3-pointers, and junior Calvin Skalla scored five points, including one 3-pointer.  Senior Max Neese scored six points, freshman Lance Hughes scored four points, and senior Reid Lamoureux, junior Thomas Jacobson and sophomore Wade Adcock each had two points.

The Raiders struggled with their shooting in the first quarter, making only 21 percent of their shots, while the Rams made 66 percent of theirs. The Rams scored first and led by as many as 13 points during the first quarter. The score at the end of the quarter was 23-9.

The Raiders scored 21 points in the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough, as the Rams scored 20. The score at halftime was 43-30. The Rams continued their domination in the second half as their smallest lead was 11 points.  The score at the end of the third quarter was 67-50.

The win puts the Rams at 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Raiders opened their season with a loss Tuesday to the Nevada Cubs, so they’re now 0-2 overall and in the HOIAC.

The Rams play South Hamilton (Jewell) next Tuesday in Jewell.
