New bridge for N-65 slated for 2017 construction

County engineer Wade Weiss is planning ahead for the construction of a new bridge on County Road N-65 (D Ave) across the Raccoon River near Hyde Park in Kendrick Township.

The county supervisors on Monday approved a Department of Transportation federal aid agreement for the project. Weiss explained that federal bridge funds can be held over from year to year, and with the $220,000 set aside in this agreement, he anticipates having $890,000 in federal funds toward the $1.8 million total cost when construction begins. “I think that bridge is a good use of federal aid dollars,” Weiss said.

He anticipates letting bids for the project in October 2016, with construction starting in the spring of 2017.

Weiss is also planning for repair work on bridge near Ralston that same construction season.

Also, Weiss again mentioned work needed on the Grimmell Road bridge on the west side of Jefferson. The bridge is within the city of Jefferson’s jurisdiction but is on an important farm-to-market route. It is eligible for state farm-to-market funding. Weiss has previously stated his desire to begin coordinating with the city for a major project on that bridge.

In other business, the county supervisors accepted the monthly report of treasurer Donna Lawson. She includes in her report a tally of revenue from Wild Rose Casino. The county receives money nearly weekly from Wild Rose. As of Nov. 12, Greene County has received $44,540. The funds at this time go into the county’s general fund.
