Rock the ARC puts varied acts on stage to raise funds for food pantry

Rock the ARC w borderAll area residents are invited to Rock the ARC at an afternoon of entertainment and fellowship next Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 pm at RVP~1875/History Boy Theatre Co at 115 S. Wilson, Jefferson.

The inaugural Rock the ARC a year ago raised $3,750 for the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (ARC), and organizers hope to surpass that total this year.

The afternoon features an array of talent from all parts of Greene County and as far away as Ghana. Fred Woodley of Grand Junction will open the show with his rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.” He’ll be followed by Scranton’s own Varceis Club doing its version of “The Good Ship Lollipop,” and then area poets Teena Toliver, Nancy Hanaman and Tori Riley will read their original poetry.

The Prairie Blue Dancers will take the stage next. Musical selections will be offered by Jon Bos and Robbie Pedersen, Sheilah McGregor Pound and Anna Pound, Danielle Johnson, Rick Fazel, Deb Kucerak and Andra Kucerak Guccione, Robbie and Angie Pedersen, Jim Ehmen, David Petersen, Kenny Monthei, Nicole Bennett-Tuel and Ava Schilling, and Maureen Borkowski and David Petersen.

Naomi Mumuni, international student from Ghana, will perform a Tora dance.

The program finale will be a sing-along of “Let There Be Peace On Earth”

A free will donation will be accepted at the door and there will be other opportunities during the afternoon to donate, including drawings for one of TVT’s yarn-bombed bicycles and an afghan made by Linda Nichols. All proceeds will go to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center food pantry.

An accompanying fund drive is already under way to kick-start the Rock the ARC effort. Sponsorship levels are set as bread, $25; vegetable, $50; meat, $100; and banquet, more than $100. Watch for more information about the fund drive.

Rock the ARC is organized by Outreach Ministries of St Joseph, formerly Monica’s Ministry, an ecumenical group that was formed several years ago by Monica McGregor as an outreach group at St Joseph Catholic Church. It was named for McGregor after her death in 2014.

Checks can be made payable to the Greene County Christian ARC with Rock the ARC noted on the memo line, and mailed to Sue Wind, 1639 320th St, Jamaica, IA  50128..
