Bell Tower w tour busTour buses  have gotten to be a common sight in Jefferson in recent months. This bus brought a group from Pleasant Hill on Thursday for a visit that included a trip that included visits to the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower, lunch, RVP~1875 and Deal’s Orchard.

Angie Pedersen, the Greene County Chamber of Commerce’s tourism and events coordinator, reports that 40 groups have booked tours in Jefferson/Greene County since mid-July. That includes 20 coming in September.

Groups have included Red Hats, the Dutch Master Auto Club from Pella, spouses of bankers attending a meeting at Wild Rose, and more. A tour group from Newton next week will visit the courthouse, John 15 Vineyard, American Athletic, Angie’s Tea Garden for lunch, RVP~1875, Deal’s Orchard and the farmers market in Jefferson, then have dinner at 209 Main before heading back to Newton.

An update on the Chamber’s efforts to promote tourism is just one of the items on the agenda for a town hall meeting hosted by Greene County Development Corp next Monday, Sept. 28, at 6 pm at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. “It’s been a great year… What’s next?” is the banner for the evening. All area residents are encouraged to attend and hear what’s coming on downtown revitalization, a proposed Cargill Pork project, the next phase of the Greene County Medical Center renovation project, the expansion at Scranton Manufacturing, the school bond proposal, and more.
