Rehearsals are well under way for the Community Players of Greene County’s upcoming production of “The Sound of Music.” Pictured in rehearsal are Nicole Friess Schilling as Maria (right) with the von Trapp children (from left)  Anna Pound as Liesl, Michael Kennedy as Friedrich, Danielle Johnson as Louisa, Jack Schilling as Kurt, Samantha Hardaway as Brigitta, Madison Hall as Marta and Ava Schilling as Gretl.

This timeless classic, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, is under the direction of Sheilah Pound, a CPGC veteran.  Other returning veterans include Friess Schilling and Johnson, along with Curt Nelson as Franz the butler, Linda Nichols as Frau Schmidt the housekeeper, and Darren Jackson as Admiral von Schrieber, to name a few.

Making their Players debut are Kennedy, Jack Schilling, Emily Stafford as Sister Berthe the Mistress of Novices, and Rebecca Stoeker as Baroness Elsa Schrader, to name a few.

“Most people don’t realize how much effort goes into making a production like this,” said CPGC president Clay Ross.  “For instance, characters need at least 100 hour of stage time.  That does not include the time they spend outside of rehearsals working on lines, songs, or other things.  Add the untold hours the tech staff puts in building the sets on weekends, finding all the props, or locating the costumes to be worn.  Then there is the business side of things, paying for the rights to do a show, paying for the supplies for the tech staff, finding a director and choosing a production, and last but not least, getting the word out to all our supporters.  It is not cheap, and we do not pay anyone.  We do this for the love of art, and for the benefit of our community.”

These people, as well as the Players, can’t do this without your support.  Mark your calendars now to see this production Feb 21-23 at the Greene County High School. Ticket information will be available soon.
