The Greene County Rams, ranked fourth in Class 3A, topped the St Edmond (Fort Dodge) Gaels, ranked fourth in Class 2A, in Jefferson Thursday evening.
Ram senior shortstop Emily Christensen led the charge in the 10-7 win with two home runs and six runs batted in. The homers were her second and third for the season, and she now has 24 RBIs.
Junior Carleigh Paup hit a triple and a single for two RBIs and seniors Bailey Godwin and Marissa Promes each had one RBI. Senior Kayla Mobley hit three singles.
The score was 5-o after two innings, but the Gaels scored two runs in the third. The Rams led 10-2 going into the seventh inning. The Gaels had a five-run rally with two outs before the Rams got the final out and won the game 10-7.
Ram pitcher Marissa Promes allowed seven hits and five earned runs. She struck out seven batters, walked two, and hit one with a pitch.
The Rams are now 19-4 on the season and haven’t lost a game at the Jefferson city field since June 25, 2013. The Gaels are 20-7 overall.
