Both summer teams get home wins via the 10-run rule

The Greene County Ram summer teams both earned wins via the 10-run rule when the Manson Northwest Webster Cougars traveled to Jefferson June 23.

At Allensworth Field, junior Branden Miller had an impressive varsity debut with a five inning no-hitter. He struck out seven batters and walked five.

Offensively, the Rams scored five runs in the first inning and six in the second. The game was called with an 11-0 score after the Cougars batted in the top of the fifth inning. The Rams got 12 hits, all singles, with two each for Dylan McConnell, Alex Rasmussen and Jordan Hostelter, and one each for Reid Lamoureux, Tyler Beger, Daric Whipple, Riah Nelsen and Jordan Challen. McConnell and Lamoureux had two RBIs on the game, with Hostetler, Beger, Whipple and Nelsen also claiming RBIs. The Rams left six runners on base.

The baseball team is now 11-7 on the season and 8-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

At the city field on E. Lincoln Way the score was 10-0 when the softball game was called after the Cougars’ at-bat in the fifth inning.

Marissa Promes held the Cougars to three hits. She struck out 10 batters and walked no one.

Hannah Onken hit her fifth home run for the season, this one a three-run homer to the center field fence. Emma Saddoris hit a triple for three RBIs. Carleigh Paup hit a triple and a single, Emily Christensen hit a double for an RBI, Promes brought in a run with a single and Bailey Godwin had a base hit. The Rams committed three errors as the Cougars committed two.

The softball team is ranked fourth in Class 3A and is 18-4 overall, 11-0 in the HOIAC.

Games scheduled in Nevada Wednesday evening have been postponed based on the prediction of severe weather.
