The June 23 farmers market in Jefferson will feature not only locally grown produce, baked goods and crafts, but live music shared by DEVELOPMENT ROCKS with the Old Guy, also known as Greene County Development Corp executive director Ken Paxton.
Paxton was an occasional guest at last summer’s markets, setting up in the shade on the southeast corner of the courthouse. He plays rock and country music from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, along with a few original songs and his own arrangements of some favorites.
Paxton is “famous” in the state as an expert on Home Base Iowa. He also claims a bit of fame as having played on a song that was Number One in the country in the 1960s, “Hot Pastrami” by the Dartels. He played in a band called Small Crowd that traveled with the Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, the Mamas and the Papas, and The Rascals. Small Crowd was managed by the same company that managed Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Paxton said.
He also played in The Dominions. Both bands – The Dominions and Small Crowd – can be found at http://pnwbands.com/nwtributes.html
The farmers market is located on the east side of the Greene County courthouse every Tuesday through September from 4 to 6:30 pm.
