Parents Tim and Lori Bardole, siblings Cassie and Gabe Bardole, and grandparents Roy and Phyllis Bardole and Phil and Toni Roberts attended Schyler Bardole’s graduation exercises at Central College on May 16. Schyler received a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and business management.
Also attending were Pete and Yvette Bardole and sons Arthur, Avery and Aiden from Jefferson and Wendy Burkett and daughters Josie, Addie, and Lily from Winterset, as well as Schyler’s fiancée Lauren King from Adaza. Following the commencement several members of the family helped move Schyler and his brother Gabe who just finished his freshman year home from the dorms. Phil and Toni attended the Rippey alumni dinner and meeting at the Rippey church on Saturday, May 23. On Sunday the couple met Toni’s sister, Joyce Macek and niece Stacy and Kent Barber of Algona in Jefferson to decorate the graves of their parents. The couples also ate lunch at the A&W Drive-In—a favorite eating place of their parents. While at the drive-in they were able to chat with Toni and Phil’s grandson Gabe Bardole, who works as a shift manager there.
Memorial Day at the Rippey Cemetery was also a time for an Andrews’s family reunion for Philip and Toni Roberts. Andrews family members from the Des Moines area included Phil’s aunt Simone Andrews, and cousins Alaine and Chris Andrews, Mike Andrews, Rick Andrews with his son John and daughter Kayla and her son Carter Andrews as well as his aunt Kathleen Linn of Rippey and daughter Becky Linn of Dana. Also present were Lori Bardole and Cassie, Schyler and Gabe of Rippey, Matt Roberts of Jefferson, and Wendy Burkett and Josie, Addie and Lily of Winterset and Gene and Charlene Dorman of Perry.
Everyone appreciated the great meal at the church following the ceremony and the chance to chat and catch up with family news. Phil and Toni have been attending Memorial services at Rippey for more than 40 years and have made it a family tradition with the hope that their children and grandchildren will carry on in the coming years.
Weekend guests of Dale and Nancy Hanaman were their son Matthew Hanaman and granddaughters Adrianna and Adyara, Rice Lake, WI. Rachel Sacco joined them on Sunday for dinner to celebrate her birthday. Following the Memorial Day luncheon at the Rippey United Methodist Church, Dale and Nancy hosted a gathering for Robert Huber and Lyn Countryman, Cedar Falls; Sterling and Vicky Young, Clear Lake; Eldon and Jane Young, Glenwood; Steven and Carol Young, Somis, CA; Anthony and Margaret Young and Evelyn, Des Moines; and Terry Young, Elk Point, SD. Steven and Carol were also in Iowa for the 50th reunion for Steven’s East Greene Class of 1965.
Margaret Mount Rees from Ozark, MO, came to Iowa to attend the alumni celebrations in Rippey and Grand Junction, to honor her father Warren Mount, 100, who graduated in 1933, and her uncle Dwight “Redlight” who graduated in the class of 1940. Her mom Nina, who is 98, was unable to attend. Margaret has been visiting brothers David and wife Diana of Oregon, Paul and wife Carol of Minneapolis, MN , and her sister Darlene and Larry Johnson of Story City. She and Ardean Vannatta of Jefferson visited John and Marilyn Rees of Storm Lake. Margaret also spent time at Connie Neese’s home in Rippey, as the girls have been friends since 6th grade.
Jean Borgeson enjoyed visiting in the home of Terry and Diane Ostendorf of Madrid on Saturday evening, May 23. Their daughter Michaela graduated from Madrid High School and her reception was attended by many friends and relatives. The Morse “girls” showed off their baking skills. Diane, Michaela, Grandma Virgene Morse, Aunt Delores Blanshan and cousin, Kelsey Blanshan had enough dessert left for future gatherings. Ben was seen picking out his stash of leftovers. It was fun visiting with the Ostendorf and Meinecke families, also. Yes, Dick had his share of goodies.

At our final choir practice, Wednesday, May 27, Brenda Roberts announced her resignation as director. She took over for Jean Borgeson when she resigned 3-1/2 years ago. We will enjoy having Brenda back singing in the choir and thank Dick Bardole for accepting the “challenge” of directing our choir starting in the fall.
