Dates set for Greene County Reads discussions

Orphan TrainGreene County librarians have announced dates for the 2015 Greene County Reads book discussions. This year’s selection is Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.

Discussions are slated for Thursday, April 16, at 9 am at the Churdan public library, at 2 pm at the Rippey public library, and at 7 pm at the Scranton public library. Jan Scharingson will once again lead the discussions. Every discussion is open to all readers so persons are free to attend whichever session best fits his or her schedule.

In Orphan Train, the author weaves together the stories of a 1929 rider of an orphan train and a contemporary teen in the foster care system. “Moving between contemporary Maine and Depression-era Minnesota, Orphan Train is a powerful tale of upheaval and resilience, of second chances and unexpected friendship,” the book jacket states.

All six Greene County libraries have multiple copies of the book to check out. Those who plan to attend one of the discussions is asked to call their local library to RSVP to assist in planning for refreshments and materials.

There is no charge. Greene County Reads is a cooperative project of the Greene County libraries and the Greene County board of supervisors.
