The gymnasium in Rippey, which was left standing when the old 1921 school was razed last fall, will be dedicated as the William J. and Maybelle I. Wisecup Memorial Gymnasium Monday, Feb. 9.The Greene County Ram girls basketball teams will host Panorama in JV/V games that evening. The JV game begins at 6 pm, with the dedication taking place between the two games.
Greene County school superintendent Tim Christensen will make comments noting the school’s appreciation of the longtime financial support the Wisecups provided to the East Greene district. Part of those funds were used to improve heating and plumbing to make it possible to preserve the gym as a stand alone structure. A bronze plaque will eventually be placed in the gym foyer.
Honoring the Wisecups was one of the last requests of the East Greene school board before that district and the Jefferson-Scranton district reorganized to form Greene County Community School District.
