JPRD plans food drive, broom ball and sledding for winter break

The Jefferson park and recreation department is gearing up for the school winter break with a special offer for admission to the Greene County Community Center and two free activities.

From Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, the daily non-member entry fee to the Community Center  will be waived for anyone who brings at least one non-perishable food item each day of entry. A grocery cart will be at the Community Center, and when the cart is full, staff will roll/push/shove it along Harrison St to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (ARC) food pantry.

A pair of fre activities are planned, both dependent on the weather. If the weather allows for ice at Chautauqua Park, all ages are invited to play broomball Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 1:30 pm. Skates aren’t required, but participants should bring their own broom.

On Friday, Jan. 2, JPRD will host a sledding party at Seven Hills Park. Transportation will be provided, leaving the Community Center at 1:30 pm and returning at 4 pm. The party will be held if there is at least 4 inches of snow. Registration is requested by Dec. 30 for those who will use ride the bus. However, families are welcome to meet the group at Seven Hills.  Participants should bring their own sleds. All ages are welcome.
