Auxiliary contributes 9,542 volunteer hours to medical center

Sharon Stoline, first vice president of Greene County Medical Center’s auxiliary, presented the auxiliary’s year-end report to the medical center’s board of trustees at its September meeting.

Currently the auxiliary has 167 members with 112 considered “active.” Members provided a total of 9,542 volunteer hours in the 2014 fiscal year. When computed at minimum wage of $7.25, auxiliary volunteer hours are valued at $69,183.

Profits from yearly auxiliary fundraisers, as well as Gift Garden sales, make it possible for the auxiliary to donate back to the medical center. During fiscal year 2014, the auxiliary donated $17,224 in equipment to the medical center. Equipment included a blanket warmer for OB; EKG machine for respiratory therapy; blood glucose laptop for diabetes management; and Bilirubin testing machines for OB and public health. The auxiliary also awarded $3,000 in scholarships to area students entering or already studying in the health care field.

The auxiliary also provides many valuable functions for the medical center. Members maintain and operate the Gift Garden gift shop; serve as host/hostess for various departments as needed; coordinate and staff monthly blood drives; and serve in a variety of capacities in long term care. This past year the auxiliary began offering free hats for all cancer patients. These are available in the Gift Garden.
