Rams lose homecoming game 28-27

The Greene County Rams’ homecoming football game on a cold, windy night ended with a one point loss to the eighth rated Humboldt Wildcats. Final score was 28-27.

The Wildcats owned the first quarter and put up 19 points while holding the Rams scoreless. The Rams claimed the second quarter at had a one point lead, 20-19 at the half. With just more than three minutes left to play in the game the Rams held a two point lead, 27-25, but a 23 yard Wildcat field goal game the visitors the lead at 28-27, and that was the final score for the game.

Seniors Jordan Challen and Dylan Hamilton shared scoring honors. Challen scored on runs of 33 and 44 yards. He had 99 total yards for the game. Hamilton scored on runs of 32 and one yard.

The Rams are 2-1 in Class 3A District 2 and 2-4 overall. The Wildcats after Friday’s game are 3-1 in the district and 5-1 overall.

The Rams did win a homecoming game, with their 17-14 win over the Webster City Lynx putting a damper on their homecoming.
