Greene County Medical Center’s Advanced Women’s Care (AWC) and West Central Orthopedic (WCO) clinics went “live” with the EPIC electronic medical records system Monday, Sept. 29.
The medical center and its many departments switched over to EPIC last March. The planning and success of the March switchover made the changeover for the clinics smooth and nearly seamless.
For the next few weeks, an increased registration time may occur in the clinics as registration will require verification of all patient information. AWC and WCO patients need to bring photo identification and a current insurance card to their next visit. All previous record systems have been successfully transferred over and any medical center clinic care received after the switchover will go directly to EPIC.
According to clinic director Jenny Taylor, the changeover “is going to be a real benefit for our clinic patients and will provide one more opportunity to provide coordinated care between our clinics and medical center services, such as surgery or other multi-discipline areas.” Taylor also indicated that “patients will receive a same day summary of their visit prior to leaving.”
The changeover will provide enhanced coordinated care within the medical center as well as coordinated connections with other medical facilities, as many such facilities throughout the state and country use the EPIC system.
Since the initial EPIC roll-out in March, medical center patients are now being enrolled in MyUnityPoint. This part of the EPIC system allows patients to view their own medical center records online. The same will be made available to AWC and WCO patients in the coming weeks.
As was the case with the medical center’s upgrade in March, the medical center’s relationship with UnityPoint Health provided favorable pricing for several rural affiliate clinics to switch over to EPIC’s ambulatory services system.
