Youth Shoot draws 32 youngsters for a day at the range

Youth shoot '14 018The Greene County Youth Shoot was held Saturday, Sept. 13.
The free event for the youth of area included six stations, and every participant had a turn at every station.  Stations were shotgun, rifle, black powder, archery, trapping and geocaching.

Several groups came together to collectively sponsor this National Wild Turkey Federation Jakes Day event. Pheasants Forever of Greene County provided ear and eye protection and the noon meal for the 32 participants.  Deal’s Orchard provided apples for the lunch.   The  Greene County Sportsman’s Club allowed the use of its facilities at Slininger Woods.  The Iowa DNR provided a well stocked trailer with all kinds of equipment for this type of activity.
Also providing experienced volunteers were the 4-H Shooting Sports, Greene County Peace Officers, and Greene County conservation board. The volunteers at many of the stations provided equipment for their stations.
The participants on their evaluation forms voted 100 percent to continue this event for next year.  “We would like to thank all of the participants their parents and guardians for attending the event.  And a big thank you to all of the volunteers because this is the only way that this type of event can be held,” one of the event organizers said.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
