Relay For Life closes books on ’14 Relay, $55K+ raised

Relay for LifeThe 2014 fundraising year for Relay For Life of Greene County ended Aug. 30 with more donations coming in over the summer months.

Relay For Life chair Peg Raney released final totals for the 2014 Relay earlier this week. The grand total for Greene County’s efforts is $55,500.67.  Last year’s total was $53,252.78, so there was a “terrific increase,” Raney said. 

The top three fundraising teams were Home State Bank Team Towers with more than $7,000, Cancer Crusaders with more than $3,200, and St. Joe’s Holy Walkamolies with more than $2,800.

More than 80 luminaria bags lined the track at the event held Saturday, April 26. The silent auction raised $5,600. The first Color Out Cancer 5K Run/Walk had more than 250 participants and raised $4,700. Raney thanked the corporate sponsors who gave both cash donations of $12,175 and in-kind donations toRelay For Life of Greene County.  “It’s their help year after year, along with so many great volunteers and people who come that day, that make the event a success. It is all greatly appreciated,” Raney said.

The 2015 Relay For Life date has been set for Saturday, April 25. The Relay Event leadership team meets monthly beginning in September.  Persons who are interested in joining this leadership team, or who would like more information, can contact Raney at 515-386-2797.

“Now is also the time to gather friends, family, co-workers and church family members to organize a Relay For Life team for 2015,” Raney said.
