Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Thursday, May 14: At 9:44 am a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 near S Ave west of Grand Junction. Jeremy Behrans of Carroll was eastbound operating a 2013 Peterbilt semi with trailer. Heidi Dankel of Glidden was also eastbound operating a 2021 Dodge Durango. Both drivers attempted to pass another vehicle at the same time and side swiped each other. There were no injuries. Damage to Behrans’ vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Dankel’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 11:53 am a deputy investigated a theft in Scranton. At 12:37 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in Scranton. At 1:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Scranton. At 4:13 pm a deputy assisted Carroll County with a house fire in the 200 block of Main St in Ralston. At 4:45 pm Mckensie Bess, 43, of Carroll was booked into the jail for a probation violation*. At 7:53 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton.
Wednesday, May 13: At 12:44 am Melanie Strain, 52, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*.
Tuesday, May 12: Routine activity reported.
Monday, May 11: At 6:40 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 2400 block of U Ave in Washington Township. At 7:27 am a deputy investigated a complaint of concrete on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. At 3:43 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1600 block of W Ave in Junction Township. At 6:23 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Scranton. Julie Simms, 59, of Scranton was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later charged with possession of contraband while in a correctional facility*. She was booked into the jail on the charges.
Sunday, May 10: At 12:52 pm a deputy investigated a backing accident in the 700 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. Kennadi Francis of Seargeant Bluff was backing out of a parking space in a 2003 Ford F-150. Melanie Light of Shellsburg was westbound on Elizabeth St driving a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado. The vehicles collided. Damage to Francis’ vehicle was estimated at $2,000. Damage to Light’s vehicle was estimated at $2,500. At 7:01 pm a deputy, Ralston Fire, and Glidden Fire responded to a vehicle fire on A Avenue near 230th St in Scranton Township. The 2010 Ford F-150 was a total loss.
Saturday, May 9: At 7:10 am a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Grand Junction. At 10:57 am Madilyn Van Pelt, 22, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of marijuana*. At 1:39 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 100 block of Lovejoy St in Rippey. At 4:49 pm a deputy investigated a vicious animal complaint in Grand Junction. At 10:43 pm Brian Schumacher, 62, of Lohrville was booked in to the jail on charges of operating while intoxicated and public intoxication*.
Friday, May 8: At 4:54 am a deputy investigated a complaint of burning in Churdan. At 7:45 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on D Ave near 120th St in Cedar Township. At 10:51 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 4:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass complaint on 170th St near W Ave in Paton Township. At 10:43 pm Travis Heinz, 33, of Oelwein was booked into the jail for a violation of probation*.
Thursday, May 7: At 5:38 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 40 near H Ave east of Scranton. Tony Weber of Cedar Rapids struck a deer with a 2016 Nissan Versa, causing an estimated $15,000 dollars damage to the vehicle.
Wednesday, May 6: At 11:19 am a deputy assisted with cattle out near 270th St and A Ave in Willow Township.
Tuesday, May 5: At 5:22 am the sheriff and deputies investigated a burglary in progress in the 500 block of N Ave in Dawson Township. Robert Olson, 48, of Fort Dodge was arrested and charged with burglary- second degree, possession of burglary tools and trespass*. Monica Volquartsen, 48, of Fort Dodge was arrested and charged with burglary- third degree, possession of burglary tools, and trespass*.They were both booked into the county jail on the charges. At 9:57 pm Ryan Brown, 53, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of driving while license barred, interference with official acts and failure to yield to emergency vehicle*.
Monday, May 4: At 1:34 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 7:19 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 500 block of Sand St Churdan. At 2:02 pm the sheriff assisted with a small oil spill in the 300 block of Trinity Ave in Paton. At 3:48 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on 150th Street and T Ave in Paton Township.
Sunday, May 3: At 7:40 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton.
Saturday, May 2: At 3:45 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Hwy 30 near J Ave west of Jefferson. At 9:18 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Churdan. At 12:06 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on 260th St near Newberry Ave in Grant Township. At 12:57 pm a deputy attempted to locate a reported vicious dog in Churdan. At 1:14 pm a deputy assisted with a horse out near 195th St and Orchard Ave in Hardin Township. At 9:19 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Stanton St in Scranton.
Friday, May 1: At 6:31 am Andrew Reisner, 41, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of operation without an interlock device*. At 9:31 am Mitchell Venteicher, 41, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of parole*. At 10:37 pm Roberto Martinez-Cortez, 22, was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance*.
