Greene County Virtual Academy for grades K-12

Greene County Community Schools is rolling out the Greene County Virtual Academy, opening for the 2026-27 school year. Students enrolled in the academy will learn from home using an accredited online curriculum aligned with Iowa standards. Expectations of students in the academy will be the same as of students attending Greene County Schools in person; students will work toward the same Iowa academic standards set by the Iowa Department of Education. The academy will be available to students in grades K-12.
According to information from the school, virtual learning works best for students who are able to stay organized and manage their time; have a supportive home learning environment; are strong communicators with teachers and staff; and can work independently while staying engaged. Families should be prepared to support their students’ daily learning, particularly in the younger grades.
Students in the Virtual Academy in grades 9-12 will earn academic credits toward a Greene County High School diploma, similar to their peers attending the brick-and-mortar school.
Enrollment is limited to ensure the best support and communication between families and staff. All applications will be reviewed to assure an online format is the best learning environment for each students.
More information about the application process and enrollment details will be released soon, with pre-registration opening April 6. More information is available by sending an email to GCVA@greenecountycsd.net
