Drones in agriculture topic of Ag Coffee

Greene County Extension & Outreach is hosting a series of Ag Coffee events, bringing farmers and other agricultural professionals together for an informal discussion on current ag topics. The last ag coffee program of the series is Friday, March 20, from 9:30 to 11 am at the Greene County Extension & Outreach meeting room.

March’s topic will be “Drone Ag Uses in Iowa.” Iowa State University’s Doug Houser, digital agriculture Extension specialist, will present an educational session on the use of drones in modern crop production, showcasing how drone technology is transforming on-farm decision-making and management practices across Iowa.

The presentation will highlight practical applications such as crop scouting, stand counts, disease detection, rock mapping, week detection, and aerial spraying—demonstrating how these tools can improve efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in row-crop systems.

Attendees will learn about regulations, certification requirements, and best practices for safely integrating drones into agricultural operations. This session aims to connect producers, ag professionals, and researchers in exploring the next generation of precision agriculture tools driving Iowa’s crop production forward. This March meeting is sponsored by Heartland Bank. Persons who want more information can call the Greene County Extension office at 515-386-2138.
