Filing deadlines told for June 2 primaries


Filing period open for county offices

While the primary election is scheduled in June, the filing period for numerous offices will open March 2 and close Friday, March 20, at 5 pm. Candidates can begin collecting signatures at any time.

Candidates seeking to place their names on the primary election ballot should collect a minimum of 50 signatures for either the Republican or Democrat party. Nominating petitions are available at the county auditor’s office or on the Iowa Secretary of State website.

These offices will be on both the primary and general election ballot:

Supervisor District 2, currently held by Dawn Rudolph

Supervisor District 3, currently held by Dan Benitz, who has stated he is not seeking re-election

Treasurer – Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen

Recorder – Deb McDonald

Attorney – Thomas Laehn

The filing for candidates for supervisor, treasurer, recorder or attorney who are not running in the June 2 primary, as well as township trustees and clerks, is Tuesday, June 2. These offices will be on the general election ballot in November.

Candidates for the non-partisan Greene County Medical Center trustee, Soil and Water Conservation District commissioner and Ag Extension Council can take out nomination papers now but they have until Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 5 pm to file. Nominating petitions are available at the county auditor’s office on the Iowa Secretary of State website. (Note: Nominating petitions are different for partisan and non-partisan offices.)

The paperwork must be submitted to the Greene County auditor’s office by deadline to be placed on the upcoming election ballots.
