Boost your chance to be accepted at your college of choice while on an adventure
Each year the local Legion Post #11 in Jefferson sponsors a delegate to attend Boys State. This program is only open to boys who are in the graduating class of 2027. Attendance at Boys State carries weight on a school application, as well as a resume. Attending Boys State is often regarded as equivalent to obtaining Eagle Scout status on college applications. Admission offices are impressed.
American Legion Boys State of Iowa is a six-day immersive civics camp that provides fun hands-on experiences in the operation and fundamentals of government. The LEADS curriculum of Learn, Engage, Accept, Do & Share shapes and empowers students to take action and accomplish great things. Each day is filled with leadership development and activities found only at Boys State. Students typically learn more in one week than they would in a semester of high school civics. In addition, there are opportunities to win scholarships and earn college credit to applicable schools. Through your local American Legion Post #11 in Jefferson, delegates or citizens of Boys State are selected and sponsored to participate. The Jefferson Legion Post #11 pays for the expenses of the program held in Johnston. The local contact for this opportunity is Jeff Lamoureux at 515-370-5326.
