Railroad historian and rail fan Doug Nebbe will present a free program called Boone County Coal Mining and Railroads on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 2 pm at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum (Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad)- 225 10th. St. Boone.
Most people don’t realize the sheer amount of coal mines in Boone and surrounding counties and the fact that they drew workers from local as well as other parts of the world to work here. Nebbe spent many years collecting rare photos and learning little known facts on this obscure bit of Iowa railroad and mining history. Combining his photos along with other local photos will prove an invaluable glimpse into unknown history beneath our feet. Be sure to attend this look into one of the more interesting facets of local railroad and mining history.
