Linda Sue Ohrt died Dec. 26, 2025, at her apartment at Evergreen Ridge in Jefferson. Linda was born May 28, 1951, in Waterloo. She was the only daughter of Raymond Ohrt and Susan Ohrt. She had five male siblings which contributed to their closeness. (Survival skills). Linda graduated from West Central Community School in Maynard and later attended La James College of Hair Design in 1986. She was employed as a hair designer in Cedar Falls.
Although Linda had no children, she worked as a nanny for several years and made them her family. Later in life she moved back to Oelwein to assist her dad with tax accounting and care for her mother. She later ended up caring for both, until they died.
Linda was very devoted to both her mother and father.
About 11 years ago her life took a major turn when she fell from a tree and broke her neck. She had to be life flighted to Iowa City and there was doubt about her survival. She has had numerous surgeries and was literally held together with steel rods and screws. After an extensive recovery she moved to South Carolina to live with friends for several years.
Linda moved to Evergreen Ridge a little over two years ago, and made many good friends at Evergreen and in her church. Both communities were very kind to Linda, and she often commented on how happy she was in her present community.
The most important expression of Linda’s life was her faith. Her faith enabled her to face multiple traumas and push on in trust. She grew more and more resilient in the face of trauma because of her faith and was able to let multiple people into her life.
Linda leaves behind her brothers Gary Ohrt (Sue) of Charles City, David Ohrt (Laurie) of Jefferson, Rick Ohrt (Georgette) of West Pittsburgh, PA, Robin Ohrt (Debra) of Elkader, and Dwight Ohrt (Colleen) of West Union; and many nephews, nieces, Nanny Kids and friends.
