Voters across Greene County elected school board members, city council members, and in some cases, mayors.
Six candidates vied for three seats on the Grand Junction city council. Zachary Dearborn received 132 votes (23.78 percent), Bryce Stevens received 119 votes (21.44 percent), and John L. Thompson received 90 votes (18.22 percent). Jac Strabley received 85 votes (15.32 percent), Mason Berry received 62 votes (11.17 percent), and Jamie Ramey received 50 votes (9.01 percent). Seventeen write-in votes were cast.
Jason McDowell was unopposed for the office of mayor in Grand Junction. He received 143 votes (73.71 percent), and there were 51 write-in votes.
Zach Schweers was elected to both the Paton city council and the Paton-Churdan Schools board. With two positions open on the city council, he received 16 votes (47.06 percent) and Diane Hanlon received 18 votes (52.94 percent). Steve Burrell ran unopposed for another term as mayor. He received 19 votes, 100 percent of all votes cast.
There were three positions on the ballot for P-C school board. Schweers received 103 votes (31.21 percent) for that position. Dennis Tilley received 114 votes (34.55 percent) and Mitch Stream received 113 votes (34.24 percent).
Churdan voters elected Garrett Riedesel to fill a vacancy on the city council. Riedesel received 37 votes (56.92 percent) and Roger Lavoie received 22 votes (33.85 percent). John McCormick and Mary Vogel ran for two available full terms on the council. McCormick received 58 votes (48.74 percent) and Vogel received 54 votes (45.38 percent).
Scranton voters elected two city council persons from four candidates. Annette Brown received 42 votes (27.10 percent), and Brenna Vauble received 41 votes (26.45 percent). Curt Dudley received 35 percent (22.58 percent) and Caden J. Wilson received 31 votes (20 percent).
Steve Scheffler was the only person on the ballot for Scranton mayor. He received 37 votes (52.11 percent) while there were 34 write-in votes (47.89 percent).
Shannon Lawrence ran unopposed to be Rippey mayor and received 25 votes with no write-ins. There were no names on the ballot for two positions on the Rippey city council. Eight names were written in; information about the tally is not available at this time Charles R. Mundy was not opposed to fill a vacancy on the Rippey council. He received 21 votes (100 percent).
Mandy Sims was re-elected as Dana mayor, receiving all seven of the votes cast. Christopher Vargas and Anthony Sims each received seven votes to be re-elected to the Dana city council. There was one write-in vote.
Michael S. McClanahan was elected to fill a vacancy on the Dana city council. He received seven votes (87.5 percent). There was one write-in vote.
Greene County voters said “no” to Iowa Central Community College’s Proposition VT, a request for a $35 million general obligation bond renewal to enhance educational opportunities and expand workforce training. Local voters cast 1,122 votes (59.59 percent) in favor of the measure and 761 votes (40.41 percent) opposed. The measure needs 60 percent to pass. Greene County is only one of seven counties voting on the measure.Result
