Letter to the editor – D. McDermott re: Iowa Central bond renewal

Our region faces a growing demand for skilled workers in health care, trades, and agriculture. Iowa Central Community College is stepping up to meet those needs, but it requires updated facilities and resources to continue leading in workforce training. The proposed bond renewal funds programs in welding, plumbing, HVAC, nursing, dental hygiene, and agriculture science. All these fields are critical to our local economy.

This is not a tax increase. It is a renewal of an existing levy that supports Iowa Central’s 6,000 students and 1,200 employees. The college is a cornerstone of our community, directly supporting one in every 26 jobs in our nine-county region. Renewing this bond is a fiscally responsible way to invest in tomorrow’s workforce
