Supervisors handle routine business

The Greene County supervisors took care of business at their Oct. 13 meeting, adopting six resolutions to transfer funds to pay for items already budgeted for, hiring two ambulance staff, and approving changes of positions for two other ambulance staff members.

The supervisors also agreed to request bids for mowing and snow removal on the courthouse grounds. That work has been handled in the past by courthouse custodial staff, but that staff has been reduced since last winter. The custodian will continue routine litter patrol and weeding the flowerbeds and planters.

Jefferson city administrator Scott Peterson reported that the jet aviation fuel farm at the municipal airport will be completed in the spring, and that the new restroom at Daubendiek Park will be completed “just in time to winterize it.” He said an open house presenting information about a proposed sidewalk project on Westwood Dr and W. Lincoln Way was well-attended by people in favor and opposing the project. The comments were forwarded to the city council’s streets committee.

Peterson also reported that Region XII Council of Governments is looking at a grant opportunity for partial funding of a sidewalk to Greene County High School. The city, the school, and the county would partner on the project. “It’s a great opportunity for the city, the school and the county to be involved in a good project,” Peterson said.

(County engineer Wade Weiss previously said the county could possibly tap into U.S. Department of Transportation funds aimed at improving the accessibility of pedestrian and bicycle routes. It would not impact funding for secondary roads projects.) Supervisor Dawn Rudolph reported Greene County industrial arts students fabricated a donation box to be installed at the Freedom Rock. Funds would go toward touching up and sealing the rock periodically.
