In Greene County district court James Edward Poole II, 45, of Coon Rapids was sentenced Sept. 30 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of gambling- avoid set-off. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and promptly complete all recommended treatment. Poole was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. A charge of fraudulent practice- second degree was dismissed. Court costs were $143.20. (Sentencing: Honorable Ashley Beisch)
Devin William Holm Morales, 29, of Jefferson was sentenced Oct. 1 to two years in prison on a charge of domestic abuse assault- strangulation, amended from domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury. Holm Morales was fined $855 with $218.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $90 domestic or sex abuse surcharge, and he must enroll in and complete the Iowa domestic abuse program. In a separate case, he was sentenced to 365 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense. The sentence is concurrent to the sentences in six other Greene County cases. He was fined $855 with a $218.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and promptly complete all recommended treatment. A charge of possession of marijuana- second offense was dismissed. Charges in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a no contact order were dismissed. (Sentencing: Beisch)
Roger Keith Ketchum Jr, 27, of Jefferson was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury/mental illness. All but two days of the jail term were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge.
