A Greene County school bus was involved in the second of a pair of accidents that occurred at or near the high school Tuesday morning, Sept. 23.
The first accident occurred at 7:46 am at the intersection of Hwy 30 and N. Grimmell Rd. Cashtin Reed, 15, of Grand Junction was westbound on Hwy 30. Jesse Perrett, 45, of Scranton was eastbound on the highway. As Reed began turning south onto Grimmell Rd the two vehicles collided.
Reed was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn and violation of financial liability requirements- accident related. Damage to the vehicle he was driving, a 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo owned by Eliza Reed of Grand Junction, was estimated at $15,000. Damage to Perrett’s 2014 Tesla Model S was also estimated at $15,000. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The second accident occurred at 7:54 am. Linda Olerich, 57, of Jefferson was westbound, leaving the driveway at the high school. She stopped at the stop sign at Grimmell Rd. Following her was a school bus driven by Alex Hamilton, 66, of Jefferson. Olerich started to pull away from the stop sign but noticed an oncoming vehicle. She stopped quickly, but the school bus struck the rear of her vehicle. There were 30 children aboard the bus; no injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle Olerich was driving, a 2020 GMC Terrain owned by Alex Hamilton, was estimated at $3,200. The school bus, a 2022 International, was not damaged. No citations were issued as the accident occurred on private property.
