Midwest Mission will host its annual rice and soy Blessing Bag Pack Thursday, Sept. 25 and Friday, Sept. 26, at its Jefferson location at 219 N. Chestnut St.
The goal is to pack 10,000 meals that will feed 60,000 people in Haiti. All the meals packed will be shipped to Haiti in October.
“Haiti has been in desperate need for food for a long time. Now that the ports are open, this is our chance to help feed Haiti,” Midwest Mission Iowa public relations coordinator Danille Curtis said.
The Blessing Bag Pack is a free, assembly-line style event. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts Thursday, Sept. 25, from 9-11 am, 1-3 pm, and 5-7 pm; and Friday, Sept. 26, from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm. Volunteers should sign up at midwestmission.vomo.org/opportunity/iowa-serving-september-blessing-bag-event
Midwest Mission has a minimum volunteer age of 11 years old, since it is a working warehouse. Volunteers younger than age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver ahead of time if they won’t be the adult accompanying their child. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes. Hairnets, beard nets and gloves will be provided. Each packing line consists of 10 volunteers, with four of them in sitting positions.
