In Greene County district court Alicia Anne Marie Offelt, 38, of Van Meter was sentenced Aug. 14 to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of assault on person in certain occupation. All but 10 days of the jail term was suspended. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. She was also sentenced to one year in jail on a charge of interference with official acts- bodily injury. All but 10 days were suspended. The jail terms are consecutive, for a total of 20 days. She was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. The court ruled she is unable to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. Michelle Ann Cook, 26, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- second offense. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation at her own expense. Joseph Henry Charleston III, 55, of Manning was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- second offense, amended from domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense. He was sentenced to two years in prison, concurrent to charges in two other Greene County cases. He must participate in a batterers education program and he must pay a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. Gary Dean Reiher, 70, of Grand Junction was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of indecent exposure. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He will continue under the supervision of the DCS for 10 years; he may be supervised using electronic tracking and monitoring. He must pay a $430 fine with a $64.50 surcharge, a $90 sex offender surcharge, and a $250 civil penalty. He must also register with the county sheriff to be placed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Travis Austin Smith, 34, of Churdan was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense, amended from operating while intoxicated- third offense. He must pay a $1,875 fine with a $281.25 surcharge. He was sentenced to two years in prison. He must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation and he must enroll in a drinking drivers course. A judgment for an $855 fine with a $128.25 surcharge was entered against Smith on a charge of driving while license barred. He was sentenced to two years in prison on the charge, with the two terms being consecutive. A judgment for an $855 fine with a $128.25 surcharge was entered against Smith on that charge. Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Randolph Lee Glass, 59, of Rippey, driving while license barred; Daniel William Hamous, 50, of Carroll, possession of cocaine; Brett Michael Roberts, 32, of Ottumwa, driving while license barred; Travis Michael Heinz, 32, of Vinton, domestic abuse assault- second offense; Zachary David Dearborn, 32, of Grand Junction, operating while intoxicated; and Candi Joelle Wenger, 35, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred. A trial date was set for Sept. 30 for Heinze, and for Nov. 4 for all other defendants named.
