In Greene County district court Orlando Lee Love, 49, of Humboldt was sentenced Aug. 7 to five years in prison after he changed is plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment. Love was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He must pay $490.38 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $198.50 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Beverly Ann Hickox, 72, of Des Moines was sentenced to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for one year. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. Hickox also changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail, suspended. If the jail terms are ever served with will be consecutive. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any treatment recommendations. One count of possession of a controlled substance was dismissed. The court found her unable to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Kole Alexander Higgins, 30, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 15 days in jail, with all but 10 days suspended, after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The jail time is concurrent to a term in another Greene County case. Higgins was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay an amount not to exceed $300 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Melori Joi Redhorn, 36, of Sioux City, theft- fourth degree; Randolph Lee Glass, 59, of Rippey, driving while license barred; Garrett Matthew Peterson, 25, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated; Christene Rae Thompson, 50, of Jefferson, murder- first degree, domestic abuse assault display/use of weapon; Daniel R. Coleman, 53, of Gowrie, operating while intoxicated; Cody Noel Roth, 37, of Woodward, burglary- third degree, theft- first degree; Neal W. Schoon, 62, of Bayard, stalking- violation of protective order; and Devin William Holm Morales, 29, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury. Trial dates were set for Sept. 30 Roth, Schoon and Holm Morales; for Nov. 4 for Redhorn, Glass, Peterson and Coleman; and for April 7, 2026 for Thompson.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant Aug. 5 that April Marie Steil, 45, of Des Moines is charged with theft- fourth degree. The case was initiated May 26, 2024. Cases were initiated during the week ending Aug. 8 as follows: Candi Joelle Wenger, 35, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Robert John William Gilmore, 39, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Jay Dolliver Orsack, 57, of Churdan, conspiracy to manufacture/deliver/possess with intent to deliver more than 5 grams not more than 50 kilogram of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of a substance purporting to be methamphetamine; and Roger Keith Ketchum Jr, 27, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury/mental illness.
