Rotary donates to Marchant library in Scranton

Tammy Ross, librarian at the H.F. & Maude E. Marchant Memorial Library in Scranton, knew that a mobile storage cabinet for puzzles, craft supplies and large books would make them more visible and increase their use at the library.

She applied for and was awarded a grant of $350 by the Rotary Club of Jefferson to purchase the cabinet. Young patrons no longer need to ask for the items, but can use them when they want. Puzzles, Ross said, promote socialization, teamwork and problem solving, and craft projects encourage creativity.

Each year the Rotary Club uses the proceeds from its annual dinner and charity auction to award grants that focus on one or more of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus – Saving mothers & children; Supporting education; Providing clean water, sanitation & hygiene; Promoting peace; Fighting disease; Growing local economies; and Protecting the environment. The next grant cycle will be announced in early 2026, following the annual dinner and charity auction slated for Friday, Nov. 21, at the Greene Room at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson.
