Woman charged with murder in Greenbrier shooting

A Jefferson woman has been charged with murder in the first degree.

Greene County sheriff Jack Williams reports that sheriff’s personnel responded to a report of shots fired June 27 at 7:28 pm at 2264 M Ave in Greenbrier Township. Richard Thompson, 54, of Jefferson was found deceased in the residence. His wife, Christene Thompson, 49, of Jefferson was arrested at the scene on a charge of murder- first degree*.

The Guthrie County sheriff’s office, Jefferson police department, Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol and Greene County Ambulance assisted. The investigation is ongoing. Williams said there is no threat to the public.
