Sheriff’s report – June 2025

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Monday, June 30: At 3:14 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 600 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 4:47 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1100 block of Maple St in Scranton. At 8:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of fireworks in the 100 block of 3rd St in Rippey. At 9:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 800 block of Jay St in Churdan.

Sunday, June 29: At 12:06 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle inn the 900 block of 270th St in Jackson Township.

Friday, June 27: At 4:41 am Daniel Coleman, 53, of Gowrie was booked into the jail for operating while intoxicated*. At 12:55 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. At 1:21 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 700 block of Madison St in Scranton At 2:53 pm a deputy investigated a report of debris from an accident on 240th St near C Ave in Scranton Township. At 5:19 pm a deputy picked up a dog that was running at large in the 400 block of Head St in Churdan. The dog was taken to the Community Animal Shelter (PAWS) in Jefferson. At 10:35 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 237th Street near Jordan Ave in Grant Township. Zachariah Kernen of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2003 Chevrolet S-10. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

Thursday, June 26: At 1:05 pm Melori Redhorn of Sioux City was booked into the jail on a charge of  theft- fourth degree*. At 3 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 2000 block of 250th St in Junction Township. At 7:28 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office responded to a report of shots fired at 2264 M Avenue, Jefferson. Richard Thompson, 54, of Jefferson was found deceased in the residence located there. Christene Thompson, 49, of Jefferson was arrested at the scene for murder in the 1st degree*. The Guthrie County sheriff’s office, Jefferson police department, Division of Criminal investigation, Iowa State Patrol, and Greene County Ambulance assisted with the investigation that is still on going. There is no threat to the public. At 9:46 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 600 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 10:42 pm Christene Thompson, 49, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for murder- first degree*.  At 11:53 pm a deputy investigated a fireworks complaint on E. Hager and S. 15th Sts Grand Junction.

Wednesday, June 25: At 10:36 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 700 block of W Ave in Junction Township. At 12:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1700 block of 280th St in Grant Township. At 5 pm a deputy investigated drug paraphernalia that was found in the 600 block of North St in Churdan. At 10:12 pm Randolph Glass, 59, of Rippey was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license barred*. At 10:58 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan.

Tuesday, June 24: At 4:20 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 600 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 12 pm Andrew Reisner, 40, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of probation*. At 4:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on Hwy 30 near W Ave east of Grand Junction. At 6:05 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with executing a search warrant in the 400 block of S. Cedar Street in Jefferson. At 10:49 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on Quest Ave near 340th St in Franklin Township.

Monday, June 23: At 6:13 pm the sheriff and deputies attempted to stop a driver at the intersection of Hwy 30 and 222nd St near Grand Junction. The driver of the vehicle, Casey Kennedy, 25, of Grand Junction, had been making threats to harm others over social media. Kennedy fled west and then south on U Ave. He attempted to strike a deputy’s vehicle and four other vehicles head-on as he drove in the wrong lane at speeds ranging from 80 to 110 mph, forcing other drivers to turn into the ditch to avoid collision. A deputy conducted a controlled impact at 300th St and U Ave, forcing Kennedy to drive into the ditch. Kennedy fled into a corn field on foot, where he was later detained. A Jefferson police officer arrived and completed the accident report. Casey Kennedy, 25, of Grand Junction was arrested for eluding at speed 25 mph or more over the limit, assault on an officer with a dangerous weapon, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and threat of terrorism. He was booked into the county jail. At 6:28 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire responded to a fire in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. The fire caused minor damage. The cause of the fire was determined to be faulty wiring. At 7:25 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on 250th St near U Ave in Junction Township. At 7:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 400 block of Sand St in Churdan.

Saturday, June 21: At 3:14 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1000 block of Fitzpatrick St in Churdan. At 10:47 am Justin Williams, 45, of Adel was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license revoked*. At 11:21 am a deputy investigated found drug paraphernalia in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 2:13 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Hwy 4 near 257th St south of Jefferson. At 3:36 pm Garrett Peterson, 25, of Scranton was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. At 6:02 pm a deputy investigated a dog running at large on X Ave near 290th St in Washington Township. At 6:20 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 1900 block of 220th St west of Grand Junction. At 10:31 pm deputies, Jefferson fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on L Ave near 290th St in Greenbrier Township. Austin Carter of Coon Rapids was traveling north on L Ave operating a 2014 Ford F-250. Carter lost control of the vehicle, rolling it several times. Carter taken to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance with suspected injuries. The F-250 was totaled in the accident. Charges are pending lab results.

Friday, June 20: At 12:47 am a deputy investigated a report of arcing power line in the 700 block of D Ave in Kendrick Township. At 1:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 600 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 5:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan.

Thursday, June 19: At 3:35 pm the sheriff, deputies, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a report of a female trapped under a lawnmower under water. Heather Lansman of Rippey was pronounced at the scene.

Wednesday, June 18: At 7:50 am Brian Hiveley, 40, of Scranton was booked onto the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*. At 1:55 pm a deputy and Jefferson Fire responded to a vehicle fire in the 1400 block of 160th St in Highland Township. At 2:11 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 4:45 pm a deputy assisted with a dog running at large on Hwy 25 near 270th St in Willow Township.

Tuesday, June 17: At 4:27 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on N. 11th St near Hwy 30 in Grand Junction. At 5:31 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 280th St near W Ave in Washington Township. Timothy Twogood of Rippey struck a deer with a 2019 Mazda MZ3, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage to the vehicle. At 10:36 am a deputy investigated a violation of a court order in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 11:47 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of High St in Scranton. At 4:20 pm Robert Harvilicz, 45, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of drug distribution violation, controlled substance violation, and possession of a controlled substance- second offense*.  At 6:43 pm Greg Pendegraft, 20, of Winterset was booked into the jail on charges of sex abuse- third degree and grooming*.  

Monday, June 16: At 11:09 am the sheriff, deputies, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on W Ave and 230th St in Junction Township. Dennis Bornmann of Indianola was driving a 2011 Freightliner semi with a grain trailer. The rig rolled onto its side partially blocking W Ave. The driver had minor injuries but was not transported. Damage to the semi and trailer was estimated at $60,000.

Sunday, June 15: At 4:18 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1000 block of Fitzpatrick St in Churdan. At 8:05 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 10:22 pm Ignatius Kum, 42, of Granger was booked into to the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*.

Saturday, June 14: At 4:01 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 1800 block of 195th St in Junction Township. At 6:23 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:03 pm Alexis McCurdy, 20, of Ames was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a false license or ID card and possession of alcohol underage*.

Friday, June 13: At 3:07 am Madison Meyers, 21, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on a charge of simulated public intoxication*. At 8:16 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 500 block of 120th St in Cedar Township. At 3:25 pm Thomas Young, 50, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of public intoxication*. At 9:16 pm Gabriel Simmerman, 40, of Murray was booked into the jail on a charge of simulated public intoxication*. At 11:44 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on N Ave near 100th St in Dawson Township. Zachary Dearborn of Grand Junction was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Dearborn went around road closed signs and struck a piece of construction equipment. Dearborn was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance. Damage to his vehicle exceeded value.  Charges are pending lab results.

Thursday, June 12: At 6:16 am a deputy assisted with cattle out near P Ave and 305th St in Franklin Township. At 3:10 pm a deputy and Jefferson Fire responded to a grass fire near 280th St and P Ave in Franklin Township.

Wednesday, June 11: At 5:07 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 4 near 305th St in Franklin Township. Shawn Scheuermann of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2015 Buick Verano causing an estimated $5,000 damage to the vehicle. At 5:38 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Hwy 30 near J Ave west of Jefferson.

Tuesday, June 10: At 11:16 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on 200th St near U Ave in Junction Township. At 6 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 900 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 6:23 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person at Spring Lake. At 7:58 pm a deputy investigated a report of theft in the 200 block of S. Chestnut St in Jefferson. At 10:43 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near F Ave east of Scranton. There was no damage to the vehicle.

Monday, June 9: At 5:11 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near J Ave west of Jefferson. Gabriel Block of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2015 Ford Taurus. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $500. At 9:29 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint at the Junction Township Cemetery. At 1:31 pm the sheriff, deputies, and the Jefferson PD conducted a search warrant at 1002 Head St in Churdan. Evidence was found in the residence. Joseph Lanstrum was arrested on warrants from the U. S. marshal’s office. At 2:24 pm Joseph Lanstrum, 38, of Churdan was booked into the jail on an arrest warrant from the U.S.  marshal’s office*.

Sunday, June 8: At 1:16 am Kim Mentolaroc, 33, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for driving while license revoked*. At 10:11 am a deputy assisted with cattle on the roadway near Hwy 4 and 252nd St south of Jefferson. At 8:58 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on U Ave near X Ave in Washington Township.

Saturday, June 7: At 5:50 pm Linda Cleary, 54, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of probation*.

Friday, June 6: At 4:46 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on Hwy 4 near 330th St in Franklin Township.         

Thursday, June 5: At 10:06 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of School St in Churdan.

Wednesday, June 4: At 11:45 am a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 at Eaton Ave east of Scranton. Todd Willcock of Nebraska was travelling eastbound driving a 2022 Ford F150 pickup. He was slowing with his turn signal on. Daniel Gehling of Scranton was westbound on Hwy 30 driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Gehling was also slowing and signaling that he was going to make turn. At the last second Willcock determined that he had the wrong intersection and continued straight. The two vehicles collided. Damage to each of the vehicles was estimated at $5,000. At 2:57 pm Shera Anderson, 31, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance*. At 9:43 pm Neal Schoon, 62, of Bayard was booked into the jail on a charge of violation of a no contact order*. At 10:18 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near Kirkwood Ave west of Jefferson. Emanuel Hernandez of Carroll struck a deer with a 2022 Volvo, causing an estimated $10,000 damage to the vehicle.

Tuesday, June 3: At 12:34 am a deputy removed a dead deer from the roadway on U Ave near X Ave in Washington Township. At 5:14 am a deputy removed a dead deer from the roadway on 235th St near Parkland Ave in Grant Township. At 5:49 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a accident at W. Clark and N. Maple Sts. At 7:43 pm a deputy assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a search warrant in the 1600 block of Neola Ave south of Jefferson.

Monday, June 2: At 6:39 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on 260th St near T Ave in Junction Township. Dylan Fouch of Grand Junction lost control of a 2016 Ford F150, rolling it on its side in the ditch. Damage to the truck was estimated at $1,500. At 8:10 pm a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a grass and tree fire near 225th St and C Ave in Scranton Township. At 8:27 pm a deputy assisted with a tree across the roadway in the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, June 1: At 12:08 am Madison Meyer, 21, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on a charge of simulate public intoxication*. At 6:18 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 10:46 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 600 block of North St in Churdan. At 2:50 pm Jared Roberts, 53, of Tama was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
