Jefferson residents will be able to learn more about an extensive sidewalk project coming up for the west part of Jefferson. City engineer Jim Leiding told the city council at its June 24 meeting that a public meeting will be held “in the next month or so” on the plans to add a sidewalk on W. Lincoln Way from Grimmell Rd, past Abundant Life Ministries and around the curve to the south. Sidewalk will also be constructed on Westwood Dr from Grimmell Rd to Hillcrest, and on Grimmell Rd between Lincoln Way and South St.
Total cost of the project, including engineering fees and a 20 percent contingency fund, was estimated at $996,950 earlier this year.
The council approved summer street work. Seal-coating will be done by Blacktop Service Company of Humboldt in northwest Jefferson, in the water tower neighborhood. Total cost will be $45,105.65.
Crack-sealing will be done by Denco Highway Construction of Mingo in the southwest portion of the city. Total cost will be $48,416.25.
Specific locations will be posted on the city’s Facebook page to alert residents when work will be done in their neighborhood.
The council held a public hearing on the proposed sale of 105 N. Walnut St to Region XII Council of Governments for a housing rehabilitation project. No comments were heard and the council approved sale of the house for $100. According to Karla Janning of Region XII, the rehab will “bring it (the house) up to snuff and make it a good part of your town.”
Janning said cost of the rehab will most likely be between $100,000 to $110,000. When the work is completed and the house is sold, funds will be available for another project.
This is the second project of its type for Region XII in Jefferson. The first rehabbed house, located at 405 S. Chestnut St, was on the market for less than three weeks.
Michelle Book, interim director of Greene County Development Corporation, provided the same information to the council she had provided to the Greene County supervisors a day earlier. See a related post on greenecountynewsonline.com. The council approved the second reading of an ordinance creating the TIF district including the former middle school, portions of the block to the south, and portions of the blocks to the east, and authorizing the division of taxes. A third reading is needed before the ordinance becomes effective.
