GJ man arrested in corn field after a high speed chase endangering other drivers

A Grand Junction man has been charged with assault on an officer with a dangerous weapon, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, threat of terrorism and eluding at speed 25 miles per hour or more after leading officers on a chase south of Grand Junction.

According to sheriff Jack Williams’ daily report, he and deputies attempted to stop Casey Kennedy, 25, of Grand Junction at the intersection of Highway 30 and 222nd St near Grand Junction June 23 at 6:13 pm. Kennedy had been making threats to harm others over social media. Kennedy fled west and then south on U Ave. He attempted to strike a deputy’s vehicle and four other vehicles head-on as he drove in the wrong lane at speeds ranging from 80 to 110 mph, forcing other drivers to turn into the ditch to avoid collision.

A deputy conducted a controlled impact at 300th St and U Ave, forcing Kennedy to drive into the ditch. Kennedy fled into a corn field on foot, where he was later detained. A Jefferson police officer arrived and completed the accident report. Kennedy, was arrested for eluding at speed 25 mph or more over the limit, assault on an officer with a dangerous weapon, four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and threat of terrorism. He was booked into the county jail.
